Antique African Spindle Bead 01

$65.00
sold out

This is an original, antique African Spindle Whorl Bead made of clay. I was able to snatch it during a jeweler's estate sale.
These beads were used as trade coins, and incorporated in jewelry, and that's how they reached my hands.

They are of really high quality, with beautiful details impressed in the clay. While modern ones can still be found, I want to stress that these are old.

Please don't expect them to spin true, with this kind of thing you have to be flexible and work with the tool you have. A cup with a little depression will help you with these, rather than a flat dish.
I find them awesome to spin cotton on because they are fast, but I also spin thin wool yarn on them.

Each bead is handmade and has a different hole.
For this reason I prepared two sticks to go with each bead, that will fit it perfectly. You will be able, should you need more sticks, to take a wooden skewer and sand it down to fit your whorl. Just be mindful that these are made of clay, don't press the stick inside with Hulk force or they will break.

What you are getting:
- antique clay spindle whorl bead
- 2 skewer sticks in bamboo, already sanded down to accomodate your whorl.
- 1 thin elastic to optionally use to secure the bead at the bottom.

Approx weight 30 grams.
